What Is Clown Insurance?
Clown insurance is general liability insurance that protects you and your clown act from costly third-party claims that may arise during set-ups, performances, and clean-up, such as:
- Bodily injuries: Trip-and-fall accidents
- Property damage: Scuffing a venue stage with your props
- Personal advertising and injury: Using an audience member in your marketing materials without their permission

Why Should You Carry Clown Insurance?

How Much Is Clown Insurance?
Insurance for clowns starts at $18.50 a month, or $199 annually. With the annual policy, you can add optional coverage for an additional fee:
- Gear and Equipment (aka Inland Marine Insurance): starting at +$7.50/month
- Cyber Liability Insurance: +$8.25/month
Only have a few gigs a year? Cover your business with three-day event insurance starting at $59.

Choosing the right insurance for clowns is no joke. Don’t settle for gaps in your coverage that could put your act and financial future at risk.
FAQs About Clown Insurance
Absolutely! Most venues and events require proof of insurance — whether you’re juggling at a child’s birthday party or throwing pies under circus tents, clown liability insurance ensures you meet gig standards AND saves you from the headaches of paying out of pocket for claims or lawsuits that could financially ruin your business.
Clown insurance covers damage or theft when you add Gear and Equipment coverage to your annual policy (you can’t purchase it with an event policy, though).
If you’re new to Insurance Canopy, you can add the coverage when you complete your application. If you’re a current customer, just log in to your user dashboard and add Gear and Equipment Coverage to your existing annual policy.
You can choose from these two policy options to safeguard your clown equipment:
- $2,000 policy year (+$7.50 / month)
- $5,000 policy year (+$15 / month)
If you have more than a few performances a year, we recommend the annual policy to ensure you have coverage for every booking. An annual policy also comes with optional, customizable add-on coverages, including:
- Gear and Equipment
- Cyber liability
If you only have one or two gigs a year, the three-day event policy may be all you need to protect your business.
Annual also has affordable monthly payments starting at $18.50 a month.
You can only cover one clown (yourself!) under your policy. Each individual needs a separate general liability insurance policy if you’re performing in a clown group.
An additional insured is a venue, event organizer, landlord, or other business you work with that you add to your insurance policy upon request. If someone files a claim against you and the business or event you’re working with, they’re also protected under your policy.
You can include additional insureds on your policy during the application process or at any time by logging in to your dashboard. One additional insured costs $5, and unlimited additional insureds cost $10.
You can set your clown insurance to kick in on the same day you purchase coverage or opt for it to start on the day of your event. That way, you can have financial peace of mind and focus your energy on delivering laughs and smiles with your clown routine.
